Elephant

The elephant—one of the largest and strongest animals on our planet—stands at sea level (0m), our narrative’s symbolic starting point.

Long considered a symbol of good luck, strength, success, wisdom, and memory, the elephant also embodies loyalty, unity, and companionship due to its deeply social nature.

It is almost unthinkable that such majestic creatures are at risk of disappearing due to the climate crisis. Yet, this is the reality we face—and the reason we chose the elephant as a central figure in our story.

Hippopotamus

The hippopotamus symbolizes creative power—the force that stirs still waters and breathes new life into the world around it.

Living at and below sea level, the hippo represents a transitional space, and marks the 0m point in our narrative.

This powerful animal teaches us the importance of commitment: to stay focused and grounded in our goals in order to realize them.

Let hippos remain the free and inspiring beings they are.

Let’s stop destroying their natural habitat—before it’s too late.

Polar Bear

The polar bear is a symbol of strength and courage—reminding us to stay resilient when facing life’s challenges.

It lives in the most fragile and rapidly changing environment on Earth: arctic sea ice, coastal islands, and frozen shorelines.

In our narrative, it represents the “melting” level—0m and below—floating on ice that is disappearing day by day.

As the climate crisis intensifies, the polar bear’s habitat vanishes. And with it, this magnificent animal edges closer to extinction.

The Story

The animals featured in Nori in Story are quietly vanishing due to the ongoing climate crisis.

Their broken embroidered lines reflect this loss — a gentle, visual reminder for new parents and the next generation.

Each animal lives at a different altitude, with sea level (0m) as the narrative reference.

But as the oceans rise, their natural habitats are being redrawn — or erased.

Let your children meet these creatures. Let them learn to care.

They hold the power to continue the story and complete the missing lines.

Whale

The whale is the voice of your inner world—your emotions, your truth, your intuition.

Living in the stillness of the deep, at -2000m below sea level, this gentle giant teaches us peace. It invites us to listen within and rise above the noise of daily life.

The whale reminds us that reality goes deeper than what we see.

It’s time we looked beyond short-term gain and stopped driving this majestic species toward extinction.

Crocodiles

The crocodile is a powerful symbol of adaptability. It reminds us that true strength lies in knowing when to wait—and when to strike.

Living at and just below sea level, it exists between two worlds—above and beneath the surface—teaching us that nothing is entirely good or entirely bad.

Courage, patience, primal instinct: the crocodile carries ancient wisdom.

But even this resilient species is not immune to the climate crisis.

We must protect the balance of the food chain—before it collapses.

Grus japonens

The Grus japonensis is a symbol of freedom and perspective. Soaring at heights of +10,000m, it is often seen as a messenger between the earthly and the divine—light and graceful, yet deeply rooted in meaning.

In many cultures, it represents luck, longevity, and fidelity. Its presence reminds us to lift our gaze, to see beyond the everyday, and to honour what is sacred.

It is unjust that such a powerful symbol is now classified as endangered.

Protecting this bird means protecting the balance between earth and sky—between what is and what could still be.
